This rich Hojicha powder is made of Karinaoshi Bancha tea leaves harvested late in the first spring season. It is grown in the exceptional tea terroir of Ujitawara and Wazuka prefectures, Kyoto. This artisanal Hojicha blend is milled to a very fine 10 microns powder and delivers roasted notes of hazelnuts and slightly caramel-like flavours. This green tea powder is of premium quality, is low in caffeine and is delicious as a latte base.

How to prepare Hojicha

       

Tea Bowl / Chawan

  • 1-2tsp / 1-2g tea

  • 60-80ml / 2-3oz water @ 95C / 203F

    Preparation method:

  • Warm up your tea bowl (chawan) first with hot water and soak your bamboo whisk (chasen) to soften the prongs for 10-15 seconds. Discard the water. 
  • Scoop 1-2tsp of Hojicha powder into a tea bowl (chawan).
  • Pour over your heated water (95C / 203F). 
    • Whisk the Hojicha powder for 10-15 seconds which will produce a creamy texture with a frothy topping.  Add more hot water or mylk of your choice to your taste.
