Matcha translates to ground (ma) and tea (cha) in Japanese. Our organic ceremonial matcha is cultivated in mineral-rich terroir, which gives rise to its luxurious flavour and naturally thick, velvety texture. Harvested from the first spring flush, the tea plants are shade-grown for 20 days before the leaves are plucked to deepen their colour and enhance their nutrient profile. The leaves are carefully de-stemmed and de-veined, then slow stone-ground into an ultra-fine powder of just 10 microns. This exceptional ceremonial-grade matcha embodies all the hallmarks of true excellence, further distinguished by its organic certification.

Matcha production is a laborious task and involves growing and processing methods specifically unique to it. This fine bright green powder is referred for its effect as "quiet alertness"  and was once used by monks to help their meditative concentration. Its claims for health benefits are numerous.

How to prepare Matcha

Tea bowl / Chawan

  • 1-2tsp / 1-2g tea

  • 60-80ml / 2-3oz water @ 70C / 160F

    Preparation method:

  • Warm up your tea bowl (chawan) first with hot water and soak your bamboo whisk (chasen) to soften the prongs for 10-15 seconds. Discard the water.
  • Using a sifter, sieve 1-2tsp of Matcha into the tea bowl (chawan).
  • Pour over your heated water (70C / 160F).
    • Begin the whisking action lightly touching the bottom of the tea bowl (chawan) until all the Matcha powder is integrated within the water then raise the whisking action towards the surface of the water and whisk for 10-15 seconds which will produce a creamy matcha texture with a frothy topping.
